- Corrupt Russian statesman and arms dealer, Viktor Skobel, is driven out of Estonia.
- Clive McCormack, a corrupt DCI and head of the Flying Squad in London, forms an alliance with London gangster Charlie Jolson.
- McCormack begins working for Charlie and accepts his bribes, turning a blind eye to any illegal activity caused by the Bethnal Green Mob, as well as tipping Charlie off about police activity and any investigations into his affairs. This alliance would continue for ten years until 2002.
